The first step in trying to get pregnant is to understand your body and your body's course during the time leading up to ovulation. One way of learning about ovulation and your cycle is by charting your cervical mucous. This way you can observe for signs of ovulation. When you chart you can better determine if you are ovulating or not.

Another recommendation is to use a Ovulation Predictor Kit (OPK).These are readily available at your local drugstore or pharmacy. Usually about a day or two before you ovulate your body will produce a surge of the luteinizing hormone, LH. The OPK will work by detecting the LH surge. Your OPK kit will come with instructions on how to use the test and what time of the day is better to test.

Certain medications may also have an impact on infertility. Before trying to conceive it is a good idea to make your doctor aware so he can review your chart and any medications that you may be taking. Being overweight or underweight can affect your fertility. Women who are extreme dieters may lose their menstrual period altogether or if you are significantly overweight this could affect your fertility as well. It is always a good idea to eat healthy and advise your partner to do the same.
