Toddler won't eat at 23 months old

Q.
Please help!

What kind of specialist Pediatrician can I take my toddler 23 months old to see for not eating yet, I tried everything in the book, his general doctor told me just don't feed him anything even if it's a week then maybe he will eat, that did not work so I'm thinking maybe something is wrong with him that he's not eating. Everyone should like mashed potatoes. He frowns and throw fits when you try to feed him table food, he's not even eating much baby food anymore, he keeps colds all the time is there a eating disorder doctor I can take him to or is there something I can give him that would make him eat?

A.

My kids never would eat mashed potatoes and still won't at 2 & 4 yrs. Is your little one a very independent little one at other things? Try sweep and mop your kitchen and lay out finger food, like a breakfast cereal (Cherrios work great), on a chair. Leave a sippy cup of milk, juice or water out too. Let him be independent, kind of like eating is his idea. Some kids are just what they call "grazers" they get the calories they need they just eat a little all day to get it.

Sometimes a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement will increase the appetite while giving the added nutrients so Mom doesn't have to worry if baby is not eating a well rounded diet. We have found the "Flinstone Complete" to be a really good chewable vitamin.

As far as finding a specialist, I would say go through your insurance company, or ask a pediatrician in the area you live. I am really not sure what to tell you on that.

Frequently a child with a cold will not have an appetite. The sense of smell is dulled by the congestion. Is it possible that he is allergic to something? Sinus congestion can be an allergy symptom and his appetite probably will not come back until you get that cleared up. It could be an environmental allergen, smoking, dust, pollen, that type of thing or sometimes a food sensitivity will add to congestion that is already there.

Let me know how you get along. I wish I could be of more help to you.
